Kon-Tiki Museum - Route of the reed boat Tigris - For 5 months Thor Heyerdahl and his crew sailed through the Arabian Gulf and around the Indian Ocean from the outlets of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. The sumerians of ancient Mesopotamia used reed boats. The trip was to prove that the cultures of Mesopotamia, the Indus valley and the Nile valley could have had intercommunication by sea. After 7000km the voyage ended in the war zone entrance of the Red Sea, where the Tigris was burnt in protest aginst the war activities and an appeal sent to the UN.
